Mark Vigna Obituary

Mark Anthony Vigna, passed away peacefully after a brief, courageous battle with heart disease on February 11, 2026 in Calgary, Alberta. He was 59-years-old. Mark will forever be remembered as a smiling and cheerful person, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, generosity, and humour that touched the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Mark was born in Calgary, Alberta on July 24, 1966, to parents Ralph Vigna and Annie Wesko. He graduated from Bishop Carroll High School in 1985, and went on to study at SAIT, completing his Professional Cooking Diploma in 1992. He worked at a variety of restaurants in Invermere, including Georgio’s where he learned how to make exquisite Spanakopita, a dish he took great pride in making for others for the rest of his life. He also worked in the kitchen at Panorama Mountain Resort. After his years in the kitchen, Mark moved back to Calgary where he worked as a security guard for a period of time before taking a disability leave.

Mark was a passionate knitter, baker, cook, pianist and an avid reader who enjoyed the novels of Stephen King and Dean Koontz, the music of Nana Mouskouri, and assembling creative charcuterie platters. He was always cheerful and had a singular sense of humour. He loved to laugh and to tell tall stories and jokes, holding animated conversations with everyone he encountered. He was kind and generous, especially those closest to him, and often expressed his tenderness to loved ones by cooking and baking for them.

Mark was a beloved son, brother and devoted friend to all who knew him. He is survived by his closest friend and partner, Gail, his mother Annie, his brothers John and Peter. Mark was preceded by his fraternal twin, Paul, and his father, Ralph and his grandparents Butch and Theresa Vigna and Bill and Mary Wesko.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt gratitude to the Foothills Hospital Cardiology Department, as well as the numerous doctors, nurses, caregivers, and friends who provided compassionate care and support to Mark.

A Celebration of Mark’s Life will take place in late April in the Crowsnest Pass, providing an opportunity for family and friends to come together, honour his memory, and share stories and experiences that shed light on Mark’s impact and presence in their lives.
