Marilyn Marcella Hauck, passed away on June 16, 2022, at the age of 77 years in Calgary, with her family by her side. Marilyn was born in Daysland, Alberta to Matilda and Ed May. She was predeceased by her best friend and loving husband, CP, in September 2021; her parents Matilda and Ed May; her sisters Leola and Sharon; brother-in-law Glenn; as well as four sisters-in-law; and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Marilyn grew up in Heisler, Alberta with great friends and extended family. After graduating high school she moved to Camrose and joined Alberta Government Telephones. From Camrose Marilyn moved to Vancouver, closer to her sister Sharon and family, and was employed by BC Tel. While living in Vancouver she married CP in September of 1971. Marilyn was a proud and true Canadian familiar with many areas of Canada as a result of living in many different places. She lived in Windsor, Ontario, then Winnipeg, Kelowna, Medicine Hat, and finally settling in Calgary in 2000.
Marilyn had a great love of music, singing, and dancing that she shared with CP and subsequently passed on to their son Shawn. Marilyn and CP enjoyed going to the theatre when possible, and both were delighted when Shawn chose Robyn as his bride, as Robyn is a talented and gifted singer. Marilyn and CP proudly attended her shows and performances.
The highlight of Marilyn’s last ten years was the arrival of her grandson, Dexter Patrick. What a ‘proud grandma’ she was! From early on in Dexter’s life, Marilyn shared her time with Dexter whenever possible. She loved playing chair hockey, taking shots at Dexter, and watching Dexter play hockey followed by her happy sharing of the details of all the ‘big games’ Dexter had and how many goals he scored. Sleepovers were a regular, happy occasion—only Dexter’s favorite food was served or ordered. Many friends were grateful recipients of Marilyn’s famous pumpkin muffins and nuts and bolts that she made and shared with her family and friends.
Marilyn will be lovingly missed and remembered by her son Shawn, daughter-in-law Robyn, grandson Dexter, Special Lady Verna, nieces, nephews, and many wonderful friends with whom she shared her humour, love, and friendship.
A Celebration Mass of Marilyn’s life will be held at St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, Thursday, June 23 at 2:00 PM.
