Marianne Safton

Marianne passed away suddenly on Tuesday July 7, 2020 at the age of 86.   Born in Bern, Switzerland on June 10, 1934, Marianne immigrated to Canada in the 1950s.  She initially spent several years in Toronto before moving to Calgary and the mountain scenery that reminded her of home.  It was in Calgary at Voyager Petroleum that she met Sam who was to become the love of her life.  She was well aware of the fact that Sam came with four young, rambunctious kids, Sandie, Jamie, David and Stephen.  She dove in, taking on the responsibility of a fulltime wife and mom with gusto.  Marianne enjoyed the extensive travel that she and Sam undertook over the years, dinner parties and family get togethers were always a highlight in Marianne’s kitchen. Marianne is survived by her loving and dedicated husband Samuel J Safton, children Sandie Safton and partner Peter Cowan, Jamie Safton, David and Kimberly Safton, John Edwards and Maggie Edwards. She leaves behind numerous grandchildren and one great grandchild.  Marianne was predeceased by her sister Trudy and son Stephen. A celebration of life for Marianne will be held at a later date to be determined. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Diabetes Association of Canada at www.diabetes.ca
