Maria Mastoris

It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved Yiayia Maria on Tuesday March 31, 2026 at the age of 89. Maria Mastoris (née Kaligosi) passed away in the loving embrace of her daughter and only child, Stavroula, knowing how deeply she was loved and cared for by all in her life. She lived a beautiful, full life; one packed with infectious laughter, family dinners, trips to Greece, days at “school” with her friends, teaching her granddaughters how to cook traditional family recipes, and hours upon hours of phone calls to her loved ones.

Maria, also lovingly referred to as Mother Mary and Yiayoula, was born in Lofiskos, Greece on February 4, 1937. She is survived by her daughter Stavroula Tsaprailis (Lampros) and her granddaughters Tatiana and Christina. She will be remembered by them for her high-spirited character, her immense love of family, and her ability to make everyone around her feel special. Maria is predeceased by her husband George, her siblings Penelope and Stamatis, and many close friends. She leaves behind her younger siblings Vasilis and Kiki, as well as cherished family and friends in both Greece and North America; all of whom brought such happiness to her life.

Maria’s life was marked by love, family, and always laughter. Those who were lucky to share time with her will remember her for her warm, fun-loving attitude; her delicious spanakopita, and; her penchant for making friends with anyone, anywhere. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her, for their lives were richer with her in them.

A Prayer Service will be held at Evan J Strong Funeral Services South (5502 2 Street SW, Calgary, AB) on Monday, April 6, 2026 at 5:00 pm.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church (1 Tamarac Crescent SW, Calgary, AB) on Tuesday April 7, 2026 at 10:00 am.
