Maria Anna Calvene

Maria Anna Calvene passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, surrounded by her family. Maria will be sadly missed by her 2 children, daughter Lydia (Robin Koolloos) and Daniel; and her granddaughter Serena.

Maria was the oldest of 6 children. She immigrated from Villaverla, Vincenza, Italy to Canada in 1956 and made Calgary her home. Maria had a deep religious Catholic faith, and she enjoyed tai chi, gardening, cooking, numerous hobbies, but most of all, the time spent with family and friends.

Maria was also a lifelong learner and throughout her life continued to educate herself. She  had several passions, her greatest joy being a grandmother. She was completely engaged and excited to be invited to all of her grandaughter's many activities. She loved spending countless hours attending all her dance and piano performances.

Maria loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful vacations. Her smile was most beautiful and  infectious, and she made friends easily. She touched many lives with her wisdom, generosity and kind spirit.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Felix of 51 years. She was survived by 2 sisters, Antonietta Lavinia (Italy); as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by sisters, Mira, Rosetta, and her brother Tony.

The family would like to thank the staff at AgeCare Seton for their loving care.

A private Funeral Liturgy will be held on Tuesday, August 27 , 2024 aa Evan J Strong Funeral Services (5502 2 Street SW).

If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made in Maria ’s name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta at 200, 119 -14 Street NW, Calgary, AB T2N 1Z6.
