Margaret and her twin brother, Michael, were born in Grandview, Manitoba into a large family of 15 children. Her parents, Andrew and Pearl Balak, farmed three miles north of the town. Margaret graduated from high school and found work as a telephone operator both in Saskatchewan and in Winnipeg, Manitoba before moving to Dauphin where her parents had retired. She worked there as a teller at the Bank of Montreal before moving to Calgary where her oldest sister Anne lived. It was there that she met and married Tom Stadnicki on December 27, 1957.
Margaret worked in a doctor’s office in Calgary until her retirement. She and Tom did not have children, but they had many nieces and nephews with whom Margaret kept in touch.
Margaret volunteered at her church and at nursing homes and was a member of the Catholic Women’s League. She and Tom enjoyed travelling, camping, and fishing. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 2007 before Tom passed away in 2010.
Margaret moved from her home to Chartwell Colonel Belcher until she needed more care. Her last months were spent at Bowview Nursing Home. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on November 17. She is survived by her sister, Bette (Johnny) Wesley, and many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services (5502 2 St. SW) on December 14, 2022, at 11:00am. Reception to follow.
