Margaret McDonald, cherished daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home, on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the age of 100.
Marg was born in Elnora, Alberta, the youngest of four siblings. Her father worked for the railway, and as such, the family lived in small towns along the CN line in central Alberta, with school years in Red Willow & Swalwell.
In 1947, she moved to Calgary where she met and married, Alex, with whom she spent 63 beautiful years. They bought their first home in 1954 in Bowness, living happily there for 50 years. In 2004, with Marg at the age of 80, they made a new home in a townhouse in Lincoln Manor, Calgary. Throughout her life she loved to sew, knit, bake, read and play cards. She loved to travel, especially to Mexico and on cruises. She made life-long friends wherever she was, her warmth and enthusiasm touched everyone she met. Most of all she loved her family; her biggest joy in having them around her.
Marg leaves behind her children, Murray (Michele Rempel), Tom and Lori (David Little); her grandchildren, Shawna-Seah (Cam Jost) and Tamara (Chris Green); her great-grandchildren Dylan Jost and Letty Green; and extended family. Marg was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband, as well as many friends and extended family.
A Funeral Service will be held at Foothills United Church (3803 – 69 Street NW) on Friday, December 6, 2024 at 1:30 pm, with a reception to follow at the church. A recording of the service will be available for those who were unable to attend.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Marg’s name may be made to Foothills United Church or the Alzheimer's Society of Calgary.
