It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret “Lillian” Maginley on Friday, December 6, 2024.
Lillian was born in Calgary on March 13, 1922. She grew up in Sunalta, graduated from Central High School and attended Teachers College. Lillian started teaching in one room schools around southern Alberta and went on to teach both Elementary and Junior High in the Calgary Public School System over the next 35 years. Midway through her career, she obtained her Library Science degree at U of T and continued her love of books, learning and children as a librarian for the remainder of her career.
Lillian was a lifelong member at the Scarboro United Church, where she made many enduring friendships and participated in the church’s many activities.
An intrepid traveller, Lillian went on yearly trips both domestically and internationally. One of her passions was to seek out and meet relatives in Ireland and Wales and others who had dispersed across the globe.
Lillian is survived by numerous Nieces and Nephews and their families. She was predeceased by her sisters Dorothy Purvis (2022), Joanna Maginley (1988) and her brother Bert Maginley (2013).
Lillian moved to Staywell Manor in 2013, leaving the home she had lived in for 95 years. She continued to live a full and rich life in her new supportive community environment. We would like to thank the many staff there for their care and compassion.
No memorial service is planned at her request. If desired, please donate to a charity of your choice.
