Marcelle Leung

Remembered with love ❤️.

With the heaviest of hearts and the fondest of memories Marcelle (nee Lopez) of Calgary, AB passed at the age of 80.  Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and aunt faded away peacefully at Bethany Riverview on May 27th, 2022.

She will be lovingly missed by her devoted husband Robert of 63 years; her two children Lisa (Mike) and Kurt (Susan); her three grandchildren Stacey (Brian), Cristian, and Cassie; two great-grandchildren Ava and Hudson; her two loving sisters Mercedes (twin) and Selma; and her numerous nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by parents Beatrice and Vern; her siblings Sylvia, Eileen, Yvonne, Vera, Barbara, Winston, Selwyn, and Lennon; her son-in-law Warren; and nephew Gary.

Born and raised in Trinidad, a twin and the youngest of 11 kids. At the age of 27, she visited her sister in Switzerland and was offered a job with an American firm. This prompted her husband Robert to move the family and join Marcelle. Shortly after, the family moved across the border to France. Within 5 years, the family moved again and immigrated to Canada. Initially settling in Montreal, followed by Red Deer, and finally in Calgary. Marcelle, Robert, and Kurt briefly moved to Atlanta, Georgia for a few years before returning to Calgary.

Marcelle was a devout Catholic. She was loving, kind, and outgoing, but her Trinidadian island temper could sometimes make an appearance.

She started her career as a bookkeeper and moved on to become an Accountant at Foothills Pipelines prior to retiring.

She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. She enjoyed crafting, crocheting, playing cards, gardening, cooking, spending time with her girlfriends, and volunteering with St. Cecilia's Catholic Women's League and local food banks.

Marcelle possessed a beautiful soul and we were blessed to call her Wife, Mom, Nana, Gran-Nana, Sister, Aunt, and Friend.  She will be deeply missed for all time.

Marcelle was affected with Alzheimers for the last 6 years and is now released from that pain. May her soul find rest.

A Private Celebration of Marcelle's life will be held for family and close friends at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services NORTH (3625 12 Street NE) on Thursday June 16, 2022 at 2:00pm. Please contact a family member if you wish to attend. A link to the live stream of the service will be available here for friends to attend virtually.

The family would like to extend their gratitude to the staff at Bethany Riverview for the support and loving care they provided to Marcelle. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Marcelle’s memory to Bethany Care Foundation  OR to Calgary Alzheimers Society.
