Marcelia Bobyn Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marcelia (Marcy) Ann Bobyn (nee Burlack), on September 25, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta.

She will be lovingly remembered as a cherished wife, mother, Baba, aunt and friend who brightened every room with her radiant smile, warmth, and her impeccable style and grace.

Born June 24, 1942, to parents Anton and Victoria Burlack in Rosthern, Saskatchewan, Marcy was the oldest sibling to her beloved sister Jean - a relationship she treasured and kept close throughout her life.

Marcy met the love of her life, Donald (Don) Bobyn in Saskatoon, SK. They wed on May 18, 1963, and later welcomed three children, Gregory, Linda and Ronald, into their lives.

Marcy loved social gatherings; she had a talent for bringing people together.  An evening with Marcy guaranteed delicious food, laughter, and usually a “Marcy-tini” or two. No detail was ever too small for her caring touch.  She was a crossword master and a fierce competitor in any game. She treasured her times with close friends playing canasta and troika, her sharp wit and playful spirit often carrying her to victory.  One of her greatest joys was spending time with her grandchildren – playing games, sharing stories, and keeping up with their busy lives.

In the early years of their marriage, Marcy and Don spent countless weekends with their children at their cabin in Panorama, BC, creating cherished moments and family traditions that have been passed down to their grandchildren.  In their later years, they fulfilled their dream of travelling the world with close friends and loved ones, from safaris in Africa to cruises in Alaska.  Wherever she went, Marcy carried her family in her heart – her suitcase always packed extra full with gifts for those she loved.

A devoted parishioner of St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church, Marcy was a lifelong member of the UCWLC and a faithful presence in the church choir alongside family and friends for every Sunday Liturgy.

Marcy lost the love of her life, Don, just 12 months ago, a loss that broke her heart after 62 wonderful years of marriage.  We take comfort in knowing that they are together again in God’s eternal embrace.

Marcy will be lovingly remembered by her sister Jean, children Gregory (Stacey), Linda (Christian) and Ronald (Shonalie) as well as grandchildren Laura, Amy (Stephany), David, Elise, Sarah, Jonathan, Owen, Kailey, Breanne, Joey, Rozie, as well as many nieces and nephews.

A Divine Liturgy for family and friends will be held at St. Stephen Protomartyr Ukrainian Catholic Church (4903 – 45 Street SW) in Calgary on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 10:00am, followed by lunch and a reception in the Parish Hall.

For those that cannot attend Marcy’s funeral, a recording of the service will be available below.

The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the oncology team at the Arthur Child Cancer Center over the past year and the attending medical staff at the Rockyview General Hospital for their warmth and care of Marcy in her final days.

In lieu of flowers please honour Marcy’s memory by cherishing your family, following your heart, and embracing the gift of life each day.
