Manuel Dourado

Manuel Dourado, age 73, of Calgary, Alberta, passed away peacefully at home on August 3, 2025.

Manuel was born on October 19, 1951, in Goa, India to Aleluia and Carmina Dourado. His family left Goa when he was young and moved to Dar-es-salaam, Tanzania. After finishing school, he spent a few years in India to attend post-secondary studies and met his future wife. He went back to Tanzania and then immigrated to Canada in 1977.

With his quiet and calm demeanor, Manuel kept himself busy and accepted life’s challenges. He worked in electronics and photofinishing and then as an IT technician. He retired early and sharpened his self-taught skills to create and fix anything, building a handcrafted waterfall in the backyard, filling the flower beds with summer long blooms, then harvesting fruit and vegetables, canning and brewing. With meticulous attention to detail he would upholster furniture, sew and alter garments – a gift he inherited from his parents. He kept his mind sharp with crossword puzzles and sudoku; enjoyed watching the Calgary Flames, cuddling with his Scottie, Molly, catching up with friends and family, latest podcasts and YouTube videos.

Manuel is survived by: His wife of 42 years, Hyacinth, his twin sons, Nicholas and Charles (Chelsea Grimard), his siblings:  Paulo, Albertina, Veronica (Andrew D’Mello), Tony and Thomas (Lana) , Hyacinth’s siblings:  Patricia (John Joseph), late Jane (Subramani Moorthi), Zelma (Rajiv Thakur), Gail Barneto (Arlene), and numerous friends, cousins, nieces and nephews.

A funeral Mass will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 10:30 am at Holy Spirit Church, with Fr. Avinash Colaço officiating. Visitation will be held half an hour prior to the service. A reception will follow at the church hall.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
