With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Lorena (Renee) Fisher of Calgary, Alberta, on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at the age of 84 years, after a bitter battle with cancer.
She is deeply missed by her husband Robert (Bob) and children Brent (Tina) and Lori (Jack). Renee leaves behind her beloved grandchildren Christie (Tyler), Philip, Derrick (Chanel), Danica, Jolie, Maddison (Colin), Carley, Amanda, Justin and Brandan. She is also survived by nine beautiful great-grandchildren, her sister Phyllis Pighin (Elliott), sister-in-law Linda Normandeau and best pal Joyce Tadey, all of Cranbrook, BC.
Renee is pre-deceased by her parents, Philip & Marjorie Rombough, her sister Glenys and her and Bob’s twin boys, Robert and David (Rosanna), who were taken far too early in life by ALS.
Renee spent most of her years as a proud homemaker which she affectionately titled a career in “Domestic Engineering”. She was a mentor to both her children and grandchildren and was tireless in her loving commitment to family and the love of life.
Her and Bob were fortunate to have done their share of travelling. She camped extensively and wintered annually in Arizona and Mazatlan for 15 years once Bob retired. Some of her fondest memories were made in Mazatlan with Bob and many of her family members who came to visit over those years.
If Mazatlan was her “home away from home” in the later years, Whiteswan Lake was her regular haunt prior to retirement. Renee was an ardent “fisherwoman” and was almost never outfished by the men in her family. She was a hearty camper and loved to cook her creations on the campfire.
Renee was known to be an amazing cook/baker who still has an active batch of 50-year-old sourdough in the community. She was also very crafty with both knitting needles and piecing together trendy outfits on her 1974 Bernina sewing machine. At all times in her life, until most recently, she had both a pink and blue baby sweater ready to go for the newborns of family and friends. Renee loved her puzzles, likely because she had the patience of a saint.
We knew how much she loved us all. She was a very kind and caring woman who would always put others before herself.
Renee’s wishes were not to have a funeral. Because of her illness, the family was able to visit and say their goodbyes prior to her passing. There will be a celebration of life at a future date. This event will be communicated to family and friends at the appropriate time.
Renee’s family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Southwood Hospice for their care and attention during her final days and for welcoming our pups, Reno and Charlie.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate a donation to Tom Baker Cancer Centre at https://albertacancer.ca/donate/
