After a long, valiant battle with cancer, Lloyd Thomas Dooling passed away peacefully at the Carewest Colonel Belcher Nursing Home, at the age of 96 years.
He will be forever remembered by his children, Douglas, Brian, and Joan. He will also be sadly missed by his sister Elsie Poile; his nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and dear friends. Lloyd was predeceased by his loyal and loving wife, Teresa Moreau Dooling; his parents, Anna and Ora Dooling; his brother, George Dooling; and his sisters, Cilena (Sister Bernadette) Maxfield, and Margaret Wotske.
With not one lazy bone in his body, and powered by the “need to know”, Lloyd was always learning well past his formal education. He was also very active, including late in life, and was often seen around the neighbourhood on his mountain bike, or outside tending his garden. He instilled his love of learning and solid work ethic in his children and was strict with them in an effort to instill good values. Lloyd and his compassionate wife Teresa went without to ensure the family was fed and their talents were nurtured.
Generous with his time, Lloyd volunteered countless hours, including through St. Pius X Parish and the Foothills Hospital. Deeply religious, his Catholic daily practice was the hub of his life.
Lloyd enlisted as a pacifist in World War II… a stretcher-bearer on the front lines the entire time. He could not in good conscience bear arms and had many stories of the war - experiences that wounded him more than his two injuries.
If friends so desire, and in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes may be made directly to the charity of your choice.
