Lloyd Patrick Kelly

Our dear brother Lloyd (born June 8, 1952), passed away on Friday,  September 6, 2024.  Lloyd was born, raised and died in Calgary.  He was educated in the Catholic School system and graduated from St. Mary's High School.  As a young man, he was an excellent chess player and competed locally at a high level.  He remained an avid student of the history and strategy of the game his entire life.  He was a voracious reader and lover of the English language and possessed an almost frighteningly large vocabulary.  Lloyd was a long-time loyal employee of the Calgary Public School Board. 

He is survived by his brothers, Wayne (Penny), Gary, Warren (Cheryl), Clyde (Angela), and Dale (Lorraine).  He also leaves behind five nieces, Heather, Robyn, Holly, Kate and Sarah, as well as one nephew, Daniel.  He was predeceased by his mother, Rose in 1963, and his father, John in 1971, as well as his only sister, Della in 2021.

If you are inclined, please pour yourself a drink of your favourite beverage (Lloyd believed that bigger was always better in this regard) and offer a simple "To Lloyd" before your first taste.  Lloyd would like that. 

At Lloyd's request there will be no formal service.  His family will gather at a later time to scatter his ashes on public land on the banks of a small trout stream where he fished with his brothers as a boy. 

Lloyd was a sensitive, generous man with a big heart.  Rest in peace, dear brother.
