Leonard (Len) Skowronski passed away surrounded by his family at Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta on March 29, 2024, at the age of 83. Len is survived by his wife of 57 years Nadie and children, Natalie Talbot (Brian) and Loren, and his beloved granddaughter, Maya as well as his sisters, Elaine and Adele and numerous nieces and nephews which he held dear.
Len was born in Radway, AB and spent his school years in Dapp and Tawatinaw. After completing his BSc, and numerous other certificates from the University of Alberta, he wore many career “hats” including a public-school teacher, seismic interpreter, computer programmer and business owner, and finally a management consultant, and director in charge of information which took him all over the Middle East.
By the early 2000’s Len had retired from business and turned his focus to politics, which had always been a favorite topic of discussion and debate for him. This new focus led him to be elected as leader of the Alberta Social Credit Party from 2007 and 2016.
Len’s Roman Catholic faith was always very important to him, as was tennis! He and Nadie would wake up in the middle of the night to watch tennis competitions live from all over the world as to not have the results leaked to them before seeing the entire match. Len also spent a lifetime enjoying the mountains, hiking with Nadie and their hiking club, as well as camping, fishing, and skiing with his family well into his 70’s.
Most importantly, those close to Len will remember him as we do; in his most happy and simplest place – at the kitchen table, reading the Calgary Herald, drinking a hot chocolate, and listening to CBC radio. May he rest free from pain, in peace, surrounded by love, memories and hot chocolate.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in Len’s honor at St. Peter’s Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Dr NW) on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at 11:00 am with a reception to follow. Friends and family are invited to say personal goodbyes to Len at the church before mass between 10:00 – 11:00 am and are invited to join the family at the graveside service at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 St NW) at 2:00 pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers that you send a donation in Len’s name to the charity of your choice.
