Kenneth Francis Townend passed away on July 11, 2026 at the age of 94 years.
Ken was born and grew up in Edmonton. He graduated from Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta in 1955. He met his wife-to-be, Joan, when studying at the University of Alberta. They married in 1957. He and Joan raised their two children, Laura and Kendall, both of them born in Edmonton.
Ken worked as an Electrical Professional Engineer for the first part of his career in Edmonton and Calgary. In 1972, he and his family transferred to Toronto, where he worked until he retired in 1996. Immediately following his retirement, he and Joan moved back to Calgary.
In his retirement he enjoyed travelling with Joan on different cruises, visiting his granddaughters in Nelson BC, building remote control model boats, and playing cribbage with his close friend, Bill. At one time, back in the day, he could be found boating with his friends in Bowness Park. Ken was an active member in his church, Saint Laurence Anglican Church. He was a past treasurer, and played a key role in the 2012 renovation of the church.
He will be dearly missed by his wife, Joan Townend, his children, Laura and Kendall Townend (Zora Kriz), and his grandchildren, Tressa and Amelia Ford.
He was predeceased by his brother, Ernest Townend, and his sister-in-law, Ellinor Townend.
A family Graveside Service will be held at Union Cemetery on August 11, 2026 with the Rev. Dr. Jane Rowland, officiating.
