It is with very heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Kenneth “Ken” Gold. He left us quickly and peacefully on April 29, 2023, at the age of 62.
Born in Calgary, Alberta to loving parents Amelia and Edwin Gold, Ken became the rambunctious brother to sisters Shirley and Judith.
On July 29, 1989, Ken married an incredible woman, Maureen Gold (Murray). They expanded their blonde brigade with three beautiful daughters, Kaleigh, Taryn, and Hannah, in just under 5 years.
Ken brought a bright light to every situation with his humor, positivity, and kindness. His laughter was infectious, and his wild stories will live on for generations to come. He will be deeply missed.
Ken was passionate about music and sound, and well known in the radio and media community. He owned and operated a successful recording studio - On Air - in Calgary, AB. Ken also loved the outdoors, specifically the fresh mountain air of Fairmont Hot Springs and the icy water of Lake Pend Oreille in Sandpoint, Idaho. It was here that Ken and Maureen had planned to retire and fulfill their lifelong dream of “lake living”, decided while visiting on their honeymoon 33 years ago.
Ken had a multitude of interests, including motorcycle trips with his wife Maureen, teaching his girls to ride mini motorcycles, working on classic cars (his prized 1969 RS/SS Camaro), hiking, fishing, boating, collecting vintage speakers, microphones, records, and solving world problems with his lifelong friends. To say that Ken was a busy man is an understatement; he lived every day to the absolute fullest.
He is survived by his wife, Maureen Gold; three daughters Kaleigh Gold (Julian Paquet), Taryn Gold (Kyle Ebertz) and Hannah Gold (Giovanni Vervena); sister Judith Taylor (Ron Taylor); brothers-in-law Kevin Murray (David Freeman), Desmond Murray, and Stan Trodden (Cathy Trodden); and many nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents, Amelia and Edwin Gold; his sister Shirley Trodden; and his father and mother-in-law, John, and Rosalie Murray.
Funeral Mass will be held at St. Luke’s Catholic Church (corner of Northmount Drive and Northland Drive NW) on Thursday, May 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. A recording of the Funeral Mass is available below for those unable to attend in person. A Reception will follow at Hamptons Golf Club (69 Hamptons Dr. NW) at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the Gold Family and On Air Recording Studios will be working on starting a Foundation in Ken’s name to provide scholarships to young aspiring Sound Engineers. Please check back in the near future for more information.
