Katarina Tomic

Katarina was born in Bihac, Bosnia on July 5, 1933 and spent much of her youth gardening, enjoying nature and delighting in family trips to the Adriatic Sea with their children Toni and Mira. Katarina and her husband Slavko spent several weeks out of their early years travelling most of Europe until Slavko’s passing in 1996. 

In 2000, Katarina joined her family here in Calgary,AB where she lived happily making many great memories and watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren grow up.

Even though words were lost in translation here in Canada, she always found a way to make those around her laugh and brought joy to those who had the pleasure to meet her.

Katarina was known for her diva like persona, with her hair and make up perfectly flawless every day with the intention to dress to impress, no matter the occasion. 
Her gentle nature and outspoken personality warmed the hearts of those who surrounded her but when alone, praying was Katarina’s solitude where she found her peace and happy place. 

Katarina is remembered for cheering on the Calgary Flames hockey team, baking palacinke crêpes late at night for her grand children as well as sewing and crocheting different decor for around the house. 

In her later years, those who knew and cared for her enjoyed her sense of fun and gracious manner. She made many friends at her care-home that describe her as ‘a beautiful soul’ and a pleasure to have in their company. 

Katarina is survived by her brother Evan (Kata) and sister Jelena; daughter Mira, and son Toni (Mersa) as well as her grandchildren Dea and Dean (Jennifer) and great grand children Kaiden and Sage.
