Karina Chui Obituary

It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Karina Chui (Cheung Wai Hing) on Tuesday, June 7, 2022 in Calgary, at the age of 80 years. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side.

Karina was born in Hong Kong on October 10, 1941.  She was a devoted wife and mother, a big sister, a special aunt, and beloved grandmother. Karina studied at Sacred Heart Canossian College in Hong Kong during her primary and secondary school years.  She graduated in 1965 from the Grantham Training College for teachers in Hong Kong. Karina taught in St John the Baptist Primary School for more than 23 years until 1988.

Karina and Harry met through a mutual friend and they married in 1966. They raised their small family in Kwun Tong, Hong Kong. In 1988, Karina and her family immigrated to Calgary, Alberta, Canada to start a new life. In Canada, Karina adapted to her new environment quickly.  She held jobs in various industries including retail, health care, and oil and gas.

Karina was a keen traveller. She visited many countries and frequently planned for the next trip.  Karina was an excellent cook as well. She cooked for the entire family of eight with different dishes weekly for many years.  Karina also volunteered for the Alberta Chung Wah School as a member for the  Board of Directors and Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church over the years.

Karina is survived by her husband (Harry), two children, Jonathan (Bernadette) and Kenneth (Shannon), her grandchildren, Kayla and Bethany. Karina is also survived by four sisters and four brothers.  She was predeceased by her parents as well as one younger sister. The family would like to express our gratitude to the volunteers at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church. Karina will be greatly missed, and we will all cherish our fond memories of her.
