Julia Loewen Obituary

Julia Loewen, age 59, passed away peacefully in Calgary, Alberta. Born in Peterborough, England on November 12, 1965, Julia lived a life full of love, laughter, and generosity.

She had a deep passion for travel, especially to Europe, Disney, Las Vegas, and on cruises — creating cherished memories with family and friends. Julia was known for her joyful spirit and love of adventure.

Julia married Harry Loewen on April 28, 1991 and celebrated her 10th anniversary standing on top of the World Trade Center in New York City, home of the N.Y. Giants.

Predeceased by her older brother Gregory Young. She is lovingly remembered by her parents, Allen and Amy Kathleen Young; her husband, Harry Loewen; her daughter Hannah (Micah Balisky), her adored grandson, Lincoln, son Matthew; step daughter Carmen (Joey Matczuk) and beloved granddaughter Bella. She also leaves behind a wide circle of extended family and friends who were touched by her kindness and warmth.

One of her favourite roles in life was serving as a Sunday School Coordinator at Southview Alliance Church, where she worked for 16 years— a place where her faith and love for children came to life. She devoted thousands of hours to volunteering, even while courageously facing breast and later metastatic cancer.

Julia was a gifted athlete who enjoyed slow pitch, volleyball, tennis, golf and more. Julia donated blood, marched for cancer, but most importantly she walked for Christ.

Julia’s life was a testimony of unwavering faith, selfless love, and joyful service. Her legacy is one of giving and she gave her whole heart.

A celebration of Julia’s life will be held at Southview Alliance Church (20200 Walden Blvd SE, Calgary, AB), on Friday, May 16, 2025 at 1:00pm. As per Julia's request, guests are asked to wear pink, purple, and blue to the Celebration of Life.

In lieu of flowers bought she would like donations made to breast cancer research.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate nurses and doctors at the Arthur Child Cancer Centre, her supportive team at Southview Church, and Evan J Strong Funeral Services.
