John Peng Chuen Chang passed away peacefully on December 11, 2024 at the age of 89 years. John was born on December 8, 1935 in Amoy, Fukien to Ban-bok Tiu and Yan-tee Tiu Tan. He grew up in Burma with his family and then obtained his civil engineering degree at university in Hong Kong. While in Hong Kong John married the love of his life and life partner of 65 years, Helen Yun Mun Chang (nee Hui). Upon their arrival to Canada, John and Helen continued to find ways to serve God by starting the Calgary Chinese Assembly Church. John was an active leader in the Chinese Christian Community acting as a senior pastor for 60 years. He was curious, inquisitive and open to new ideas leading to his love of travel to explore new places and connect with new people. His favourite trips being a life changing experience in Israel and an idyllic time in New Zealand. He is survived by his wife Helen; his sons Dr. Sam Chang (Barbara), David Chang (Ling) and Joe Chang (Ezandra); his grandchildren Dr. Michelle Chang (Tim), Dr. Danielle Chang, and Jadon Chang and sister in law Christina Chang and her son Jonathan Chang (Jackie) and their family. He was uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brothers Paul and Canson.

A Memorial Service will be held at First Mennonite Church (2600 Richmond Rd SW) on Friday, December 20, 2024 at 10:30 am with a recording below for those who were unable to attend in person.
