Jerome "Jerry" Clark Obituary

Born and raised in Calgary, Jerry went to Crescent Heights High School, where he founded a car club with his longtime friends. After graduating from SAIT’s technical program, he proudly spent his entire career at TransAlta Utilities, where colleagues admired his incredible talent and precision, along with his easy-going nature.

In 1971, he met Dianne Lorraine Pound. They married in October 1976 and shared a lifelong partnership built on camping trips, socializing with friends and family, and—of course—their beloved dogs. Together they had numerous cocker spaniels; they loved them like children and cared for them the same. Nearly every weekend was spent building practice jumps for the Spruce Meadow SuperDogs, producing the Calgary Cocker Club newsletter or traveling around to other dog-related shows.

Extremely creative and an avid woodworker, Jerry owned every tool and gadget under the sun. He loved to shop—and tools were no exception—and whether it was Christmas gifts or Amazon deliveries, Jerry was always on the hunt for the latest and greatest, and more often than not, he proved to be right about the “next big thing.” Famous for his cooking prowess, his love of photography, his wonderful guitar skills and his love of rum and Coke, he and his brother-in-law Bob formed their own duo, imaginatively named “Mur and Ekoc.” Jerry always made time for his niece and nephew —whether showing Greg his magic tricks (earning him the nickname “Uncle with the Cards”) or teaching Colleen to sink a putt into a coffee mug during a camping weekend.

Childhood friends Rick, Mike and Colin were always topics of conversation, and the time, care and effort spent visiting Jerry in his most recent years was very much appreciated. Jerry will be remembered for his willingness to be ridiculous and to take a contrary view just for fun, and his devotion to Dianne and the dogs. He had a special gift for cartoons and fashioned his own series of comic books featuring people he knew—often racy, always hilarious.

Dianne’s passing in April 2021 was devastating to Jerry, and his health deteriorated quickly thereafter. He was an independent man who valued his freedom. He leaves behind his sister-in-law Marles Pound, niece and god-daughter Colleen Pound and nephew and god-son Greg Pound. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Dianne and his parents George and Dora Clark, along with numerous other family members.

In alignment with Jerry's wishes, there will be no service.
