James “Jim” Nowasad Obituary

James (Jim) Nowasad passed away peacefully at Rockyview Hospital on December 22, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He will be deeply missed by his wife Lynn, daughters Jacqueline (Tim) and Colette (Glen) and sister-in-law Doreen. Jim was a devoted and beloved Poppa to Riley (Samantha), Mackenzie, Haley (Jack), Drew, and Jaydyn, and a proud great-grandpa to his great-grandson, Marshal. He is also survived by many close relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Cora and Nick, and his brothers Phil, Frank, and John.

Jim was born on July 14, 1942 in Bienfait, Saskatchewan. He had a deep love of the Crowsnest Pass, where the mountains, wind, and wide skies always felt like home. Time spent outdoors was time well spent for Jim — whether he was hunting, fishing, quadding, watching the weather roll through the valley or simply being outside with friends. He valued friendship deeply and found joy in shared stories, laughter, and the strong sense of community that makes the Pass so special.

He attended the University of Missoula, where he deepened a lifelong connection to the outdoors that would shape both his career and his passions. He also met many dear friends during his time there.

Jim spent his working life in forestry, a field that suited his appreciation for the outdoors. Through his career, he mentored many people; and after a long friendship he married his beloved wife Lynn. Together, they built a life rooted in family and friendship and spent the past 20 years sharing time between Calgary and Coleman.

Jim was a man who valued friendship and was in turn cherished by many people spanning many generations. He was a proud and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews, all of whom held a special place in his heart.

His loyal companion, Peewee, brought Jim much joy, comfort, and companionship.

Jim will be remembered for his wisdom, kindness, humour and generosity, and for the quiet, steady presence he brought to those who knew him. His legacy lives on through his family, friends, and the many lives he touched along the way.

A service to celebrate Jim’s life will be held on June 27, 2026 with details to follow.
