It is with deep sadness that we share the peaceful passing of James Edward Dornstauder (Jim), devoted husband, father, and grandpa/papa, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 83 years old.
He is survived by his wife Geraldine, daughter’s Myra (Murray) Sloan, Tammy (Corey) Taylor, Cara (Ryan) Coe. Jim was loved and adored by his grandchildren (Logan, Tyler Sloan, Grace, Rebecca, Amy Taylor, Samantha, Lauren Coe) He is also survived by his sister Carole Deutscher (Norman) and brother Ken Dornstauder (Linda) and extended family, and countless friends.
Jim was born on November 3rd, 1941, in Sedley, Saskatchewan, and was pre-deceased by his daughter in infancy, Leann Dawn, granddaughter in infancy, Emma Taylor, his parents, Eleanor and Alexander Dornstauder, his sister Marie Moe and Brother in law Doug Moe.
Jim’s early years of schooling were spent in a one-room schoolhouse in the country, where his father was his teacher. He graduated from St. Canisius High School in Sedley, Saskatchewan. After graduation, Jim moved to Regina and later to Alberta, where he started working in the oil fields. In time, he became the owner of his business, Cooper Connectors, and retired in 2021. Throughout his life, he built a reputation as a dedicated worker and a kind, thoughtful individual.
In 1966, Jim married his beloved wife, Geraldine. They enjoyed 58 years of happiness together. Their life took them to many cities for Jim’s job before they ultimately settled in Calgary to raise their family. They were a constant presence at softball fields, where they coached and supported their daughter’s teams. As grandparents, they took great pride in watching their grandchildren excel in various activities, including soccer, hockey, softball, wrestling, orchestra concerts, and drama performances.
A true sports enthusiast, Jim played many different sports, including golf, and baseball. However, his greatest passion was hockey. He also found joy socializing with friends and golfing at Windemere Lake. Jim was known for his great sense of humor, kind heart, and gentle spirit, traits that endeared him to everyone he met.
He joined the Knights of Columbus, and was a member of the Roman Catholic Church. Jim’s strong faith gave him great comfort in his final days. His family meant everything to him, and he was the heart of their world. We take comfort in knowing that Jim’s spirit will live on through the lives he touched and the love he gave.
