It is with great sadness that we announce the death of James "Jas" Houghton beloved husband, father and grandfather.
Jas grew up in Windsor Mills, Quebec. He attended Stanstead College in the mid 1950s where he excelled in many activities including student council, drama, football, track and field, basketball, and hockey. In his senior year, he was the captain of the Stanstead hockey team. He went on to play semi-pro hockey in the United States. Jas loved all sports but especially golfing and curling.
Jas chose a career in Industrial Instrumentation start up and design which took him to many major industrial sites in Canada and the United States. He lived across Canada in Montreal, Edmonton, Ottawa, Kitchener, Saint John and Calgary. He was blessed by many life-long friendships, no matter where he lived.
Jas is survived by his wife, Helena (nee Birch), sons Jim and Steve, grandchildren Daphné, Danika and Benjamin Houghton, brothers Tom, Ted and Dan Houghton and many nieces and nephews. Jas is predeceased by his parents, Amy and Walter Houghton and his brother, Bruce Houghton.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Drive NW) on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 at 1:00pm with live-streaming available for those unable to attend in person through the link below.
