James Clavelle Obituary

James Douglas Clavelle passed away peacefully on November 18, 2025, after a brief battle with lung cancer.

Jim was born on December 29, 1938, in Saskatoon. He grew up on the family farm near Plunkett, Saskatchewan. At 17 he left for the RCMP’s training depot in Ottawa. Upon graduation he served first at several locations in Northern Alberta before moving to the Arctic where he was stationed at Inuvik, Tuktoyaktuk and Herschel Island, including time spent safeguarding the DEW Line during the Cold War. Later he served in Quesnel, British Columbia where he met the love of his life Margaret Noreen (nee Davidson). Jim and Noreen’s sons were all born in BC. Eventually Jim was stationed in Wetaskiwin and finally Red Deer, Alberta whereupon he retired as a Sergeant after 20 years of service. After a brief stint with Sperry New Holland, Jim began a 17-year career as an investigator for the Alberta Securities Commission. In retirement, Jim and Noreen enjoyed several years delivering groceries to those in need.

Jim enjoyed gardening, history, researching and investing, and especially playing cards, through which he first met Noreen.

Jim is survived by his sons Dan (Mireya), Rob (Alison), Eric (Gayle), granddaughters Lauren and Megan, grandsons Andrew, Aaron, Tommy, and Henry and his brother Al and sister Elaine. He is predeceased by his parents Albert and Frances, sister Anne Marie and wife Noreen.

Jim had a remarkable and full life. He was a loving and wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend, who was loved and will be missed by all.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff in Unit 57 of the Foothills Medical Centre and especially to Dr. Jeffrey Schaefer.

As per Jim's wishes no service will be held. Jim will be cremated and buried at the Queen’s Park Cemetery in Calgary. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lung Cancer Canada or The ALS Society of Alberta.
