James Vincent Castellino

James Castellino beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away surrounded by his family at the South Health Campus Hospital in Calgary, Alberta on November 5, 2025, at the age of 86.

Born in Karachi, Pakistan, to Emmanuel and Regina Castellino, James was the sixth of seven children.

In 1969 James married Irene; they welcomed their first son Karl in 1970 and in 1973 they had twins, their son Ashley and their daughter Laila.  In 1976 James, Irene and their three children immigrated to Canada.

James enjoyed a distinguished career in the oil and gas industry. He began with Dome Petroleum as a contract lawyer and through acquisitions and transitions, continued to contribute to the industry until taking early retirement at age 61. To colleagues he was known simply as Jim.

A lifelong gardener, James spent countless hours tending to his yard and garden and was always excited to share his plant knowledge with friends and neighbours. Warm, welcoming and quick with a joke or story, he was admired for his wit, wisdom and generous heart.  James was a very proud, resilient, fun loving and intelligent man. His devotion to his family was unparalleled. They were truly his pride and joy. He loved traveling the world with Irene, celebrating life’s moments with family, and teasing his four grandsons—often delighting them with his mango smoothies. He often shared memories of his time as a cricket champion during his university years in Pakistan. James loved animals especially his grand “dogs” as he never hesitated to take care of them when needed.

A devout Roman Catholic, James drew strength and guidance from his faith throughout his life.

James is lovingly remembered by his wife Irene and his three children Karl (Connie), Ashley (Caroline) and Laila (Jorge); his grandchildren, Xavier, Darius, Matayo and Isaiah. He is also lovingly remembered by his extended family and many friends.

Funeral Mass will be held at St. Gerard's Catholic Church (8944 Elbow Drive SW, Calgary, AB) on Saturday, November 15, 2025 at 11:00 am. A recording of the service will be available below. Immediately following the Funeral Mass, relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family for coffee and lunch in the St. Gerard’s church hall.
