Jaclynne 'Jacky' Ross Obituary

Jaclynne Ross (nee Bishop) died peacefully in her sleep November 25, 2024.

Jaclynne was born and raised, and outside of a brief time in the Yukon, spent her entire life in Calgary.

Jaclynne had a curious mind which led her to many and varied interests and passions.  As a young woman she was very involved in youth drama and studied that at U of C.  Later, her childhood love of games evolved into making her a keen and very competitive bridge player, which led her all over the Pacific Northwest and further for tournaments.  She had a good ear for music but although had studied piano as a child, left it for 30 years only to take it up as a therapy when she was ill, and once again it brought her great pleasure and delight.  Jaclynne was a lifelong sewer and enjoyed design and fabric, and clothes and fashion.  She enjoyed gardening and being outdoors.  She was a big fan of figure skating from the days of Karen Magnussen, and spent many a happy time at national and world championships.  Of course she was a longtime Flames fan.  She really liked and knew her hockey stats, although they didn’t do her much good in hockey pools!

Jaclynne was an avid reader and was fascinated by popular culture: she loved trivia, she loved argument, and she loved learning.  Her life was a voyage of self-discovery and although she experienced great highs and deep lows, a part of her was always fascinated by the process.  She also enjoyed the more traditional voyages and was particularly fond of her time spent in Wales.  After her bout with cancer she made many friends with fellow survivors, particularly in the cyber-community, and travelled as far as Scotland to meet with Alison.  The road trip with Fe and Joan to meet Joanne gave her particular satisfaction.

Jaclynne was a landman for many years and had many clients as she started consulting over 20 years ago, leading to a wide experience and a wide acquaintance, both of which she loved.  She was well respected for her knowledge, which she passionately shared through mentoring, and while an instructor at Mount Royal College.

Jaclynne loved animals and cared for many over her life and they in turn provided her with much comfort and joy in her trying times.  Walks in the park and through the neighbourhood led to another wide acquaintance of genuinely good people who were unvaryingly kind to her. All of these led to life-long friendships.

Jaclynne was very sorry to leave behind her sisters Claire Hatch, and Leslie Holm (Gordon), her niece Jennifer Holm (Jim Tolton) and her nephews Robert Holm (Sabrina Fabick), Jonathan Holm (Ashley Martin) and Jeremy Hatch (Rachel) , and Great nephews Grayson and Henry and great nieces Audrey, Naomi and Cece, as well as several cousins.

It was with great regret that Jacky left her boon friends, particularly Denise, Diana, Anne Marie, Sharon, Brenda, Caroleigh, Shawn, Sheryl, Mickey, Marsha, Alissa, Rachele, and her many wonderful friends, neighbours and colleagues who were so kind to her over the years.  She was also extremely fond of and constantly grateful to her caregivers, Jackie Stinton and Heather Hicks, who helped her so much in her struggles.

Jaclynne was predeceased by her father and mother, Jack and Donna Bishop, Brother-in-law Harvey Hatch, and the many creatures which shared their lives with her, and which crossed the rainbow bridge before her.  She always looked forward to the time ‘after’ when she hoped to be with their spirits again, particularly Fido and Zak, her healing loves.

Jaclynne’s last party will be held in the Spring of 2025.
