Ivor Wellicome Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Ivor Wellicome on June 10, 2024, at the age of 93. Ivor was born on April 1, 1931, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, to Laurence Cuthbert Wellicome and Frances Amelia Wellicome (nee Bishop).

When Ivor was only 18 months old, he tragically lost his mother.  He spent his school years in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and in Burnaby, British Columbia, before joining the Royal Canadian Air Force. Ivor had a long and successful career as an Aero-Engine Technician, serving in various locations including Saskatoon, Saskatchewan (1959-1961), Rivers (1961-1964) and Winnipeg, Manitoba (1964-1968), Lahr (1968-1970) and Baden-Baden, Germany (1970-1972), and Cold Lake, Alberta (1972-1980). After retiring from military service, he continued to serve his community as a postman in Surrey, B.C., until 1991.

On December 1, 1956, Ivor married the love of his life, Elva Evelyn Campbell, in Regina, Saskatchewan. Together, they shared almost six decades of fun, adventure, and love, including raising three children and traveling to many countries around the world. After retiring, Ivor and Elva enjoyed ‘snow birding’, spending ten wonderful winters in Yuma, Arizona.  These years were filled with new adventures, friendships, laughter, and cherished memories.  In the summers and shoulder seasons they spent their days in Calgary, Salmon Arm, or Sicamous, boating and enjoying friends and family.

Ivor was up for almost anything, enjoying golf, hunting, fishing, curling, skiing, snowmobiling, hockey, bowling, and even broomball.  He enjoyed the outdoors on countless camping or fishing trips with friends and family.  Ivor was sometimes a bit of a ‘ham’, and a master of Dad jokes, sharing his sense of humour freely with those around him. He was also quite creative and liked to build or fix things with whatever was available, giving rise to the family catchphrase “he put the Ivor in MacGyver”.

Ivor’s loved ones remember him most as a devoted husband, and a generous, dependable, and supportive father.  He was known for his commitment to family and the laughter he brought to those around him. His legacy of love, joy, and adventure will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

Ivor is survived by his daughter, Karen Mae (Jean-Guy), and sons, Bradley Charles (Cheryl) and Troy Ivor (Kerry). Ivor was a proud grandfather to Brandon (Tiffany), Ryan (Manon), Connor (Chantal), Norah, and Gwenn, and great-grandfather to Isaiah and Jacob. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elva, his infant son, Daryl Ivor, parents Laurence and Frances, and his three brothers, Ken, Gerry, and Bud.

Ivor’s family extend a special thank you to the dedicated people at the McKenzie Towne Long-term Care Home for the tenderness, sensitivity, compassion, and companionship they provided in Ivor’s final years. Those who knew Ivor may share condolences, memories, and photos, through  www.evanjstrong.com.

Immediate family is attending an interment for Ivor and Elva Wellicome, at Foothills Cemetery, on Sunday June 1, 2025. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Society of Canada (https://www.alzheimer.ca), or a charity of choice, in Ivor's memory.

Rest in peace, Dad. Your love and spirit will forever remain with us.
