Isabella Doris Shannon (McIvor) has peacefully gone to her eternal rest after 97 years of life spent mostly in Winnipeg and Calgary. She said goodbye to her husband Raymond two and a half years ago and sat quietly and contentedly enjoying the company of one or more of her children always by her side until her death.
She was a woman of deep faith and committed to sharing her many gifts with others starting as a school teacher in Manitoba. Mom’s fondness for music spilled over into volunteering as an organ and choir director and then teaching piano for several years. She created beauty in her artwork and numerous gardens, shared her good cooking with others and kept her wit and humour until her passing. She knit beautiful sweaters and crafted many things for her granddaughters, Mandie and Monica. She delighted in looking at photos and videos of her two great grandchildren.
Mom accepted the challenge of raising a mentally challenged child with complete grace and devotion to her development throughout the years and the grit that only a mother can have to provide her with an abundant and enriched life far beyond expectations. She exposed her other three children to the arts and promoted the need for a good education. But she profoundly asked us to keep our faith alive and never give it up no matter what our circumstances were. We thank her for her many prayers for us.
So we conclude with this farewell to you, mom: “I will open your graves and have you rise from them, and I will bring you back to your land. Then you will know then that I am the Lord. I have promised it, and I will do it, says the Lord.” (Ez 37) All our love, Ron, Ryan, Valerie (Doug) and Margaret.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Peter's Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Dr NW) on Wednesday, April 2, 2025 at 11:00 am followed by a reception in the St. Peter's Parish Hall.
