Hydri Noreen (Sanowar) Kusumoto

Hydri Noreen Kusumoto (née Sanowar), born in Penal, Trinidad, on February 5, 1942, to Wilmot Sanowar (née Knight) and Oswald Sanowar, passed away in Calgary, Alberta, Canada on Friday, July 5, 2024, at 82 years of age. 

Hydri left Trinidad at 17 to attend McGill and Dalhousie University where she graduated with BSc and a MEd, respectively. She taught Science at her alma mater St Joseph’s in Trinidad and then moved to Calgary to teach at St. Francis High School. There, she met her husband of 56 years, Tomosan Kusumoto.

She was a mother, wife, sewer, avid philanthropist sponsoring over a hundred children internationally, a great cook, and loved to read and sing. She could recite long poetic passages right up until the end. She was as smart as they come and was a teacher at heart, always sharing her knowledge and wisdom. 

She is survived by her husband Tomoson Kusumoto, five children, Tomoson Sanowar Kusumoto (Rachel Kusumoto), Tatia Yoneko Kusumoto (Scott Simpson), Tian Robert Kusumoto (Jenny Kusumoto), Jasmin Kusumoto (Kevin Auck), Robyn Scheller (Ken Scheller), and eleven grandchildren, Mikayla Strachan (Cameron Strachan), Mason Auck, Kiarra Scheller, Miles Auck, Seneca Simpson, Mayu Simposon, Kayden Kusumoto, Markus Kusumoto, Aliyah Scheller, Meika Kusumoto and Eabe Kusumoto.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Calgary, on September 14, 2024.
