Hugh Charles Gill passed away peacefully on Feb. 1, 2026 at the age of 86 years at Rosedale Hospice, Calgary.
Beloved husband to Kathy (nee Lee). Loving stepfather to Albert Wong (Teresa). Born in Gravenhurst, Ontario to the late Cyril and Monica (nee Dawson) Gill. Dear brother of Mary (Lyle, predeceased), Gerald (predeceased) (Anne), Paul (Sheila) (both predeceased), Brian (Mary) and Bernard (Bette Ann). Hugh is fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews and their families.
Hugh was raised on a farm in Kilworthy, Ontario. He worked all his adult life for Shell Oil beginning in Toronto and moving on to Calgary where he lived for the last few decades. He was a quiet, kind and gentle man. He had a great appreciation for the outdoors where he enjoyed hiking, skiing and canoeing. Hugh found love late in life when Kathy danced into his heart. They enjoyed 19 wonderful years of marriage and much travelling together. Hugh drew great strength from his Catholic faith as well as from his friends and his parish community. We can be comforted in knowing that he went to meet the Lord with firm trust in His Divine Mercy.
The family would like to thank the staff at Rosedale Hospice, Calgary, for their dignified care and compassion.
Hugh will be deeply missed and forever remembered by the many lives he touched.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bonaventure Church (1600 Acadia Dr. SE) on Thursday, February 19, 2026 at 11:00 AM, with a recording below for those unable to attend in person followed by a reception and internment in St. Mary’s Cemetery (3157 Erlton St SW).
