Helen Marie Rankin

Helen Marie Rankin was born on January 29, 1944 and died on February 22, 2021 at the age of 77 years. She leaves her husband of 55 years, Alan; her three children Lisa Elmore (Robert), Michael Rankin (Natasha) and Steve Rankin (Lori); seven wonderful grandchildren – Andrew, Sydney, David, Summer, Alexander, Caiden and Parker; her two sisters, Joan Williams and Linda Popek (Peter), and about forty Rankin relatives reside in the Hamilton-Niagara areas of Ontario.

Helen was always ready for fun and adventure, especially travel to Europe, Japan, Hawaii and the Caribbean. She was always ready to go to Disney World with her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Her last big trip, to Hawaii in March 2020 (her 9th visit), was cut short by the Covid-19 Pandemic. Helen was a talented artist and an accomplished home decorator with a flair for fashion. Alan was quite easily convinced early in their marriage that she was a more talented person than him at hanging wallpaper and painting rooms the colour of her choice, but the result was that he had to rearrange the furniture layouts and rehang pictures on the walls on a regular basis. Helen was a warm, wonderful woman who will be deeply missed by all those who she met over the years.

The Rankin family wants to extend our thanks to the caregivers at the Calgary South Health Campus in the Gastro-Intestinal Unit and the Intensive Care Unit for their warmth, kindness, and attentiveness towards Helen in her extended stay under their care.

A private Funeral Mass will be held at St. Albert the Great Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at 11:00am. Live stream of the mass will be available.
