Helen Evaniew of Calgary, Alberta peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020 at Amica-Britannia Senior Care Facility at the age of 97 years. Helen is survived by her four children; John David (Janet), Marsha Hales (Conard), Susan Marie O’Brien (Kerry), Thomas Clark (Carol); and beloved only grandson, Isaac Carter Evaniew. She was predeceased by her adoring husband John, married 66 years. Also predeceased were Helen’s beloved parents, Steve and Rosie Kolasa of Thorhild, Alberta; brothers Billy, Peter, Dave, and two loving older sisters, Annie and Marie. Helen is survived by her youngest sister, Hazel. Helen was a true Canadian and Alberta pioneer, working hard on her family’s large acre farm near Edmonton. She then worked at the landmark Palliser Hotel in their beauty and health salon for ten years, beginning in 1940. Then chose to become a wife, mother and business partner with husband John. Helen enjoyed golfing, gardening, travel, crossword puzzles, bowling, baking and entertaining. She had a very strong faith and was an active parishioner of St. Anthony’s Catholic Community. Helen’s family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to her care partners at Amica for their wonderful care and compassion. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church (5340-4 St SW) on Friday, July 24, 2020 at 11:00am. Graveside service to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
