Heath David "Scotty" Gravelle

Heath David Gravelle — known to most people as Scotty — was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, father‑in‑law, grandfather, great‑grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He lived a full and meaningful life, marked by quiet joy, steady presence, and a deep appreciation for the people around him. He approached each day with an easy‑going spirit and a calm gratitude for those he cared about and those who cared for him.

Scotty found happiness in many places throughout his life — golfing at MacDonald Island Park in Fort McMurray, riverboating along the Clearwater River, fishing, enjoying ski trips in his younger years, or relaxing in his favourite lazy boy chair. He also worked 22 years at Suncor Energy and spent much time working outdoors later in life. Family remembers sharing good times, enjoying great food, and feeling his steady, gentle presence whenever they were together.

A lifelong sports enthusiast, Scotty loved the excitement of the Daytona 500, Blue Jays baseball, hockey, golf, and any sport his children and grandchildren enjoyed playing. Weekend NASCAR races were a cherished ritual — he rarely missed one, and he liked to enjoy them without much distraction, a gentle reflection of the joy and calm he found in the sport.

He also appreciated life’s simple comforts: ice cream, treats, a good hamburger and fries, and the satisfaction of BBQing on a warm day. His daily Tim Hortons coffee was a grounding ritual, a familiar rhythm to start each morning. He welcomed short visits from family, valuing those moments of connection.

Heath is survived by his loving wife Joan, his daughter Chantelle (Mike), stepchildren Jody and Kris (Monica), and his grandchildren Seth, Colton, Jade, Matilda, Kobe, Tiago, and great‑grandchild Meadow and his siblings (John and Carle) who will continue to carry forward his memory and spirit. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Our family would like to express heartfelt thanks to neighbours, emergency responders, and the staff at Foothills Hospital who provided support leading up to his sudden passing at his home in Calgary, Alberta.

A private family remembrance will take place.
