Harvey Petkau Obituary

Harvey Petkau passed away peacefully to begin his next journey in the early morning of Friday, December 8, 2023.

Harvey is survived by his three sons, Brian (Debbie), Darcy (Brenda), and Dean (Krista); and numerous grandchildren, Jeff (Sam), Lacey, Bryan (Hannah), Joey, Melissa, Kimberley (Mike), and Kelsey (Landon). His legacy continues with his great-grandchildren, Kane, Scarlett, Liam, Emma, Ainsley, Claire, and Caleb. Harvey was also a stepfather to Gaydon’s three children, Andy Pawson, Rob Pawson, and Nola Pawson; and grandfather to Brendan, and Hannah. Harvey is also survived by his current life partner Bea Beierback of Cochrane.

Harvey was the oldest of eight children. His surviving siblings are Nettie (Herman), Ed (Jennette), Peter (Vickie), Harold (Bev), and David ( Elizabeth). He was an uncle to numerous nieces and nephews. Harvey’s first wife Lavonne predeceased him on June 3, 1979, and his second wife Gaydon predeceased him on October 11, 2013, as well as his parents, George and Nettie; and brothers, Cornie, and Arnold.

Harvey loved all his roles as a son, brother, husband, Dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He watched his family grow and was a pillar of support for his three sons and three stepchildren.

Harvey, along with his wife Lavonne, and then Gay, were active members of St. David’s United Church for many years. The list of church activities is endless, all of which kept them happy and involved.

Harvey and Bea were active members of the Cochrane Community and enjoyed the small-town atmosphere of their community.

Traveling was an enjoyable experience for Harvey. If it wasn’t Hawaii with Lavonne, it was Europe with Gay and then the Caribbean with Bea. Along with his family, and traveling he was an avid sports fan, baseball and curling were among his favorite sports to watch and couch coach. Golf was again a love of his as he was able to amalgamate being a Course Marshall and an active player into a great pastime.

Our family would like to say thank you to the Staff of Sage Hill Retirement Home, especially Darrel who was Harvey’s favorite care giver. They made his life enjoyable and comfortable.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at the Triwood Community Hall (2244 Chicoutimi Drive NW Calgary) from 2:00-4:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, the family would request donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society at
