Harry (Aristidis) Kousinioris passed away peacefully on Friday, December 26, 2025, surrounded by his loving wife and sons.
Harry was born on November 16, 1931, in Demetra, Greece. Following service as a Lochias (Sergeant) in the Hellenic Army, he left Greece in 1957, seeking a better life in Canada. He embraced the opportunities and challenges he experienced with energy, courage and determination, starting as a busboy in Regina, Saskatchewan, which led to a 35-year career as a restaurateur and the establishment of a number of restaurants in Alberta including the White Spot, the Homestead, the All Seasons, the Beefeater and the Yeoman. He subsequently and successfully turned his attention to commercial real estate in the Calgary area.
Harry was a humble man with a big heart and a love of life. He valued family, community, self-reliance and hard work. He was also devoted to his church and was active in the Hellenic Community of Calgary (where he had served on Council) and the American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association (AHEPA).
Harry was proud of his family and loved them deeply. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Toula, his sons John (Amanda) and Spilios (Tracey) and his grandchildren, Evan, Alexandra, Lucie and Vivian, whom he adored immensely and who lovingly referred to him as “Papou”. He was predeceased by his parents Ioannis and Katina, and his stepmother Panagiota. He is remembered for his warmth and kindness, his dedication to doing the right thing and his focus on his children’s education, something which he was unable to pursue in wartime Greece. He worked tirelessly to give his family every opportunity possible.
We celebrate Harry’s long life and are thankful that it was well-lived with adventure, surrounded by family and friends. We will miss you.
Thank you to the staff at the Foothills Medical Center and the Chinook Hospice Team for their compassionate care.
