Harry Protopappas passed away on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at the age of 87 years. Harry was a proud Canadian, Albertan and Calgarian. He was born and raised in Erythres, Attikis, Greece, and immigrated to Calgary in 1951. Harry attended the University of Alberta and graduated in 1958 with a degree in Civil Engineering. Since then, he worked for the Department of Highways of the Province of Alberta until he retired in 1992, as Regional Director of the South-Central Region. Harry was a dedicated member of the Greek Community of Calgary and had served as its President, and for many years as Secretary of the Council. He was also a proud member of the Order of AHEPA, serving for many years locally as President, and as District Governor. Harry was extremely proud of his family and loved them very much. He is survived by his devoted wife and love of 60 years, Ageliki “Koula;” his children Vicky (Michael), Efie and George (Audrey); and his grandchildren Georgios, Hari, Sophia and Anisa; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Georgios and Vasiliki, and his sisters Youla, Katina and Theodora. Harry was an outstanding man; known for his integrity, dependability and humor, his love of life, food and dancing, and his sense of community. He had an amazing, positive outlook and was the perfect example of living life to the fullest, traveling the world, enjoying outings with his friends, and spending the last 28 summers swimming at Porto Germeno. Harry considered himself lucky to have lived this long, but to his family and friends, he was taken way too soon. Harry will be forever missed by all whom he touched.
