It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Hank Wiechel, on February 1, 2023, at the age of 85 years. Born in Hanover Germany, he was the only son of Gerda and Heinrich Wiechel. He is survived by his wife Pat McDonell, son Frank (Julie) and grandson Brian.
Hank was an electrician and learned his trade in Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1957. He was a hardworking man and always enjoyed working at his trade.
With a natural affinity for the outdoors, Hank loved spending time camping, hiking and skiing. His real passion was wildlife photography whether it was sitting in a blind photographing birds or standing by a river capturing bears fishing for salmon. Hank and Pat travelled extensively from Iceland to Patagonia, from Turkey to Tuktoyaktuk and many places in between. Photography was always a big part of their travels.
"Don't cry because he is gone. Smile because he lived."
No funeral or service is planned. If you so wish, create a living reminder - plant flowers or a tree or donate to the Alzheimer Society in Hank's memory.
