Hal Kupchak

Cherished father, grandfather, and husband, Harold William (Hal) Kupchak passed away peacefully in his home at the age of 80 years.

Born and raised in East St. Paul, Manitoba, Hal attended the University of Manitoba and became a Chartered Accountant in 1963. Hal's vibrant career allowed him to work in Europe and Canada and moved his family from Manitoba to Ontario and Alberta, settling in Calgary with his three daughters in 1979. 

In Calgary he discovered his love of golfing, and through this shared passion he met his beloved wife Joan. Hal and Joan made many great friends through golf and their winter home in Arizona. His family joked that Hal loved the ‘three Cs’ – cars, computers and clubs!

Hal also loved to sing. His mother said he sang before he talked! He was frequently on the local radio as a boy in the 1950s. His daughters fondly remember him with a banjo or guitar in hand, especially at Christmas.

Hal was predeceased by his mother Jean, father John, and sister Joan. Hal’s legacy will live on through his daughters Alana (Michael) Park, Kristin (Jason) Usselman, and Paula (Emmanuel) Hall; and grandchildren, Julianna and Carmen Park, Genevieve and Jocelin Usselman, Eve, Violet, Arwen and Henry Hall; and wife Joan Kupchak. He will also be lovingly remembered by Joan’s children, Graham and Christa Hill, and their families.

A private family celebration of life will be held. The family would like to extend sincere gratitude to Dr. Hau and Dr. Webster, as well as the wonderful staff at the Tom Baker Cancer Clinic.
