Message from Gerry Yamada - May 14, 2016 at 11:33 AM

I had the very good fortune of starting my career in O&G with Graeme a very long time ago (now I wish it would be extending to very, very), We shared many laughs, geologic learning trips, lots of drink and parties with family and friends. Though different jobs came and went, we eventually came to have the same employer. He was friend, supporter, job saviour, boss and a like appreciator of a wee dram. I think of him as always trying to help those around him and a "good' geologist. Gerry Yamada

Graeme was as remarkably generous and gentle soul who helped so many people around him. I count him as the best boss I ever had, dispensing on a daily basis rather gnomic statements that became obvious truisms as a I finally grew experienced or mature enough to understand them. But besides being a good boss, Graeme was a great friend, and he looked out for the people who came into his life. I hope that his particular version of heaven includes beautiful coral reefs, spectacular mountain vistas, and cool cans of Kokanee over a hardwood bar. Because those are the backdrops my mind associates with Graeme.brent wignall

Very sad news indeed! Within hours of the news reaching us here in downtown Calgary, emails were circling the globe to people Graeme, hired, mentored and/or managed. May god bless Raymonde, Fraser and Laurie and may he give them strength is this most trying of times.I will be forever grateful to Graeme for pushing me to be a better geoscientist and for letting me play in the WCSB sandbox.

So sad to hear the news of Graeme. He has been a great mentor to me throughout my career and I have truly valued his friendship. I have always appreciated his thoughts and perspectives on geology and the oil business through the years. I especially have fond memories of field trips that we went on together. He will truly be missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to Raymonde, Fraser and Laurie at this time.

Message from Stephen Robinson - February 03, 2016 at 09:22 PM

Our hearts ache for Raymonde, Laurier, Fraser & Serena and all of Graeme's family, friends, coworkers and anyone who knows what a wonderful man of integrity has been lost. Each recent memory of being with Graeme has now become a special and sacred moment in time which we treasure. It has been such a privilege to walk even a little of Graeme's life journey with him. I am sure there are many like us who know we are better people for having known him. Marjorie remembers in particular the way his heart was so present in his warm, genuine smile. He almost did not need to speak with his voice when he smiled, it said so much. We pray for whatever consolation is possible at this time. With all the friendship we have to offer, Stephen & Marjorie

Message from Rob MacDonald - February 04, 2016 at 10:50 AM

Graeme was a friend and mentor of mine for almost 30 years. He gave me my first job out of university and over the subsequent years he involved me in numerous learning and teaching opportunities. We climbed mountains and dove reefs, and he shared his passion for geology and learning with me, and all those who had the opportunity to know him. He was a good friend and a good man. The world is poorer for his passing, but we are richer for having known him. Our thought are with you Raymonde, and with offer are heart felt condolences to you and your family.Rob and Heather MacDonald

So sorry to hear of Graeme's passing. I found Graeme to be a great mentor. I always appreciated his open door policy. Not only did we see and learn on those geological field trips, but we also had fun. I can still hear him laugh. My thoughts and prayers are with Raymonde and family as they go through this difficult time.

Graeme - a life well lived He was a true friend to me over three decades. He leaves a great legacy of kindness and generosity that he showed to me in many ways. He was a counselor, a mentor and teacher, a sounding board, and an audience. I will miss making him laugh, and will treasure the many memories of far away places above and under water. I will miss the times over a beer or two when we solved big questions like the meaning of life, only to forget the solution when one of us changed the subject. On being a petroleum geologist... through his contributions, Graeme deserves to be credited with many discoveries whether by building successful teams, or enabling many of us in some way to make our own discoveries.I take comfort in knowing that my memories of him will fill the empty space that comes from losing him too soon.Tim Bird
Message from Casey and Michelle Hoogveld - February 04, 2016 at 05:28 PM

We met Graeme through our Christian community at Ascension parish many years ago. I was always impressed by his friendly nature and gentle spirit. He was a last hold out in our group to join the church, which bore witness that God hears our prayer. I'm so glad we bumped into him not long ago after mass at St Pius and had a nice chat, catching up on family news. We extend heartfelt sympathies and prayers for peace for Raymond and the boys at this sad time.

I am sad to hear this news , far too soon for such a gentle person to leave the world , I didn't know him well but anytime we meet through friends or work it was fun, loved chatting with him, he always had the time , I will miss not seeing him again , one of those people I enjoyed running into and considered a friend even though we met only a few time over the many years. Will remember him well ,Frederika D

I had the privilege of working with Graeme (at Chauvco) for about a year, and of knowing him as a friend for many years since then. What an intelligent, funny, and caring person - the highest compliments that I can give. To me, he was a truly inspirational cynic in the funniest possible ways. I have heard from many colleagues and friends who are deeply saddened by his too-early passing. Our deepest condolences to Ramone and family.Brad Hayes

Message from George Kress - February 09, 2016 at 10:42 PM

Louise and I had the pleasure of just recently meeting both Raymonde and Graeme. Their support of Catholic Christian Outreach for many years has been greatly appreciated. They invited us over for a wonderful dinner just less than 3 weeks ago. We shared our mutual love for Hawaii and it was obvious in the short time that we got to know Graham that he had gentle soul and was also very adventurous (scuba diving, his plan to tackle the Camino Trail in Spain etc). We were both shocked and saddened to hear of Graeme's passing and our deepest sincerity and prayers go out to Raymonde and the family during this difficult time. May Raymonde's strong faith in God reveal to her that God and many others like us care and reach out to her with a holy hug. ...George & Louise Kress The attached picture of the sunrise was taken this morning (Feb 9th) in Hawaii and I dedicate it to the memory of Graeme and his love for travel.

We were so sorry to hear of Graeme's passing. We deeply appreciated Graeme & Raymonde's tremendous support & caring during Paddy's final months & through our own bereavement in 2012. We will remember Graeme's gentle humour & kindness. Paddy had a great respect for Graeme as a geologist & they shared some deep spiritual moments during their El Camino journey in 2007.Linda, Julian & Melanie Chesterman
