Gordon Harvey Bedingfield Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Gordon Harvey Bedingfield. Gordon died at home on March 17, 2026 of natural causes at the age of 82 years old. Gordon was born in Fort MacLeod Alberta on April 22, 1943 to Wilhelmina (nee: Harink) and Thomas Bedingfield. Gordon moved to Calgary in 1962 to study surveying at SAIT. Coming from the prairies, he developed a love of the mountains and tried his hand at climbing, before settling on a love of downhill skiing. Gordon was an active member of the Volunteer Ski Patrol at Lake Louise for decades, helping many an injured skier off the hill and having fun while doing it. It was through skiing that he met and eventually married Angela Marie (nee: Joyce) in 1974. He and Angela continue to enjoy skiing and had many good times during après ski activities in Banff, Sunshine and Fernie, particularly in the company of their dear friends in the Lost Sheep Ski Club. He and Angie were devoted parents raising two children, Nancy and Bobby who will miss Gord deeply. Gord cultivated a love for the sports and the outdoors in his children, taking them camping, fishing, and hiking, with many mornings and evenings spent at the rink for Bobby’s hockey and with Nancy’s activities.

Gordon had a long and productive career as a Surveyor with the City of Calgary, helping to build many of critical roads in Calgary’s transportation network. Gord retired in 2000 and devoted his time to caring for Angie, who by that time was battling terminal cancer. Angie’s passing in 2006 was a major blow, but his impressive work ethic carried him through, as he found a new rhythm for his life, turning his attention to music, tending to his home and garden, and enjoying time at the family home at Mara Lake. Gord was an active member of the Irish and Dutch Cultural Choirs and took ukelele and guitar lessons for nearly a decade. He passed many an afternoon in his later years trying to cultivate his inner rock and roll rebel persona.

For a guy that didn’t like travelling, Gordon travelled to Europe, Bahamas, Mexico, Africa and to Nova Scotia to visit family. Gordon was a quiet and determined man but could talk once you got him going telling stories of growing up in Fort Macleod. He would tell vivid stories of working at Andrews Hardware Store, playing with friends in WWII airplanes and exploring the fields and rivers around Waterton National Park and Southern Alberta.

Gordon was always looking to better himself and even in later years never stopped searching for enlightenment, enjoyment and peace. He was a great role model for his kids, demonstrating perseverance and committed determination in all aspects of life.

He is survived by his sister Linda Housenga, her husband Glen and their three children, Nancy, Bobby and his wife Lori.
