Gloria May (Wannop) Thygesen

Gloria Thygesen (nee Wannop), passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 30,2024 at 91 years young at the Southwood Care Centre.

Gloria, daughter to Ethel and Reginald Wannop, was born in Langley Prairie, BC, on March 13, 1933. In 1951, she married Everett Thygesen and moved to Calgary, Alberta, where she would spend the majority of her adult life raising her family.

During her empty nest years she became an RNA, working with the George Boyack Nursing Home until her retirement. She was a woman of courage and grace with a zest for travel, which took her on many adventures, including a civil uprising in Greece and a war in Yemen. During her later years she bestowed upon her grandchildren her love of travel by taking all 7 of them to Disney, not once but twice. Her love for her family was apparent. 

She is survived by her five children, Colleen (Geoff), Coral, Connie, Brent and Phillip, as well and her 7 grandchildren, Sara, Correen, Ross, Ryah, Adam, Erin and Ryan. Her Memory will carry on for generations with 10 great-grandchildren. Gloria was predeceased by her parents Reg and Ethel Wannop and 3 brothers, Jack and Lloyd Galbraith and Brian Wannop. She will be dearly missed by her family, many friends and neighbors.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2025 at The Legion - 606 - 38th Ave. NE from 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm.
