It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Gloria Roustan (Baba to her grandchildren) in her home in Calgary on Friday, August 23, 2024. Baba is survived by her children Nadine (Rod), Andy (Julia) and Nancy (Kevin); her grandchildren Tanner (Kenzie), Mikaela, Danica, Darci, Audrey and Gabriel and by her great-granddaughter Charlie May. She is also survived by her sister Mary Ann (the late Mike), brother Rt. Rev. Fr. Stephen (Maria) and numerous nieces and nephews. Gloria was predeceased by her parents Nicholas and Annie, by Rene, her children’s father, by her sister Elizabeth (the late Walter), by sister in law Helen, by brothers in law Paul (the late Joy) and Walter (the late Ivy and the late Maureen). Gloria was born and raised in Montreal, graduating from St. Joseph’s Teachers College. She taught in Montreal before having and raising her children, later moving to Calgary with her family. Here she held several positions in the Catholic School System, at St. Vincent de Paul and more recently at St. Monica, until her retirement. Mom’s thoughtful actions and prioritizing family were what made her so special. Baba loved her crossword puzzles and sudoku in the daily paper and read many books. With her family she was always doing jigsaw puzzles or playing cards and other games. She almost never missed watching her grandkids play sports or perform in dance recitals. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation or to the charity of your choice.
A Funeral Mass and celebration of Baba’s life will be held at St. Peter’s Roman Catholic Church (541 Silvergrove Dr. NW) on Saturday, September 21, 2024 at 12:00 p.m. with live-streaming through the link below available for those unable to attend.
