It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Gilbert Adam Wilde, on July 1, 2024, at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, at 86 years old.
Gil was born in Earl Grey, Saskatchewan, on July 27, 1937. He received his education up to grade 12, in Earl Grey, then onto the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon. He graduated with Distinction from the Faculty of Commerce in 1955. Next, he articled for three years with Clarkson Gordon Co. in Regina, receiving his Chartered Accountant designation in 1960. He transferred to the Winnipeg office of Clarkson Gordon Co. as Manager in the Spring of 1961.
Gil met Caroline Reagan at a dance at the Trianon Ballroom in Regina. Many dances later, on Caroline’s 21st birthday, they got engaged. On September 16, 1961, Caroline & Gil married in Sturgis, Saskatchewan, at St. Patrick’s R.C. Church.
He left Clarkson Gordon to become the Controller of Hudson Bay Wholesale. He travelled extensively with both companies, from coast to coast. After more than 25 years with Hudson Bay, he moved to ICG Propane as a Controller. They transferred him to the Calgary office in 1990. Petro Canada then purchased ICG Propane. He continued with them for a few years and then left to work for Scott National, Centennial Foods, and Multi National Foods, finishing his career with Power Properties in 1995. He continued his accounting practice from home for many years. When Gil’s health began to fail, he retired completely. In 2021 he was recognized for his 60 years as a Chartered Accountant
Gil was active in Toastmasters International as District Governor and President of the Home & School Association for elementary and Junior High schools. He was also President of the Arthritis Society and on the Speakers Bureau of the United Way, all in Winnipeg, MB. Over the years, Caroline and Gil enjoyed trips to England, California, Arizona, Hawaii, and a few fun trips to New Orleans, where Andrea and Todd had a vacation home. He loved reading, golfing, dancing, music, and movies. He was an active member of a Magic Club here in Calgary, where he met many wonderful people.
He was predeceased by his parents, Mary and Adam; his sister and husband, Dorothy and Don Kolenosky; and nephew, Richard Tyndall; many aunts, uncles, cousins, in-laws, Bob and Bertha Reagan; and brother-in-law, John Reagan.
Gil is survived by his wife of almost 63 years, Caroline, and daughters Andrea (Todd) Ditchfield and Jodine (Ken Opaleke) Wilde . His sister Phyllis and Jerry Tyndall, niece Michele Tyndall, nephew Robert (Betty) Tyndall, and their families. He also has seven brothers-in-law, five sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews.
Gil was a very kind, loving, honest, and patient man. He was a wonderful son, father, husband, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be so missed and never forgotten.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Cecilia’s Parish (321 90 Ave SE) on Friday, July 12, 2024, at 1:00 p.m., with a reception to follow.
