It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Geraldine Brooks, on Thursday, February 6, 2025. She was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend, Mervin in 2022. They were married for almost 70 years. She was also predeceased by her brother Allan (Buddy) and her sister Maxine.
Geraldine was born and raised in Calgary. She graduated from Western Canada High School at the young age of 16, even after missing a year of school due to suffering from rheumatic fever. Geraldine loved to travel, and she and Mervin visited many places including Thailand and Africa.
She was a wonderful cook, making meals enough to feed the whole neighborhood. She was always happy in the kitchen, often making big pots of soup to share with family and friends. She also loved to crochet and made dozens of afghans, everybody went home with a blanket.
Geraldine had a brilliant mind and was musically gifted. She could play any song she ever heard on the piano or organ without ever taking a lesson. She also loved animals, especially dogs and birds and was forever kissing them. Her and Mervin spent countless hours volunteering for a variety of organizations, always generous with their time.
Geraldine will be greatly missed by her niece Cindy (Cy); and her sister-in-law Molly Johnston. She also leaves behind her niece Judy (Kevin); and nephews Jeff (Brenda), and Marshall (Tracey); and other friends and family. Geraldine was a fierce advocate for those she cared about. Rest in peace, you will be missed.
A Gathering will be held at Evan J. Strong Funeral Services North (3625 12 Street NE) on Thursday, March 6, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
