With profound sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gerald Sedres on March 5, 2025, at the age of 82, in Calgary, Alberta. While we grieve his loss, we also celebrate the life of a remarkable man whose love, kindness, and unwavering dedication to his family will never be forgotten.
Gerald is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Brenda Sedres, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and companionship. He is survived by his beloved sons, Gavin (Megan), Michael (Carmen), and Graham (Vanessa) and his dear sister, Stella. He was a cherished grandfather to Shalaine, Sharnae, Kheira, Khylan, and Ruby, each of whom was blessed to know his warmth, wisdom, and boundless love. He also held deep love for his sister, Joan, and his brother, Kenny, who passed away before him.
Born in Cape Town, South Africa, Gerald made the courageous decision to move his family to Canada, seeking greater opportunities and a better life for those he loved. He was a man of incredible resilience, strength, and unwavering work ethic, always ensuring that his family was well cared for. Through every challenge, he remained steadfast, a pillar of support and guidance for those who knew him.
Beyond his hard work, Gerald had a gentle soul. He was a man of deep faith, guided by his belief in God, which shaped his life and the way he treated others—with kindness, humility, and grace. His love for painting was more than just a hobby; it was a reflection of his creative spirit and his ability to see beauty in the world. He found joy in simple moments, whether it was sharing stories, laughing with his best friend, Tony, or spending time with his family, whom he held closest to his heart.
Gerald’s legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion—a life well-lived and a soul deeply cherished. Though he may no longer be with us in person, his spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched. His memory will be carried forward in the stories we share, the lessons he imparted, and the love he so freely gave.
We take comfort in knowing that Gerald is at peace, watching over us with the same love and care he showed throughout his life. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
