Frederic (Fred) Bremner Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Frederic (Fred) Bremner II, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend who lived a long and meaningful life dedicated to family, faith, hard work, and kindness.

Fred was born on October 18, 1928, on the family homestead near Wakaw, Saskatchewan, where he grew up with his brothers and sisters learning the values of resilience, responsibility, and perseverance. After high school, Fred began a successful career in sales, first in Prince Albert and later bringing his family to Calgary in 1965 as one of the first employees to help open the new Sears store at Chinook Centre. He spent more than 35 years with Sears before beginning a second career at Maclin Ford, where he continued working until his retirement in his eighties.

While Fred was proud of his career, his greatest joy was his family. He married the love of his life, Katherine, on May 5, 1951, and they shared 69 wonderful years together until her passing in 2020. He carried her memory with him every day and treasured the love they shared.

Fred found happiness in life’s simple pleasures: time with family, Sunday mass, country drives, hockey, conversations about the weather.  He also enjoyed time with neighbours and friends over a good McDonald’s breakfast, and special treats like Chinese food, and maple walnut ice cream. Fred was a long time member of the Knights of Columbus, 4th Degree.

He was known for his gentle spirit, quiet faith, positive outlook, and the warmth he shared through a kind word or a reassuring hand. Fred’s greatest legacy is the love and values he passed on to his children, Lynda (son-in-law Bob) and Fred (daughter-in-law Andrea); his grandchildren Julia, Jack, and James, and their partners David, Kennedi, and Olivia. He taught those around him the importance of hard work, optimism, compassion, and appreciating the beauty in everyday moments.

Fred will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love, faith, and positivity will continue to live on through all who were fortunate enough to know him. We take comfort knowing he is reunited with Katherine his wife.

Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church on Friday, July 17, 2026 at 10:00 am, followed by a reception in the parish hall. Graveside service to follow at Eden Brook Cemetery.
