It is with deep sorrow and immense gratitude for his life that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and uncle who peacefully left this world in the embrace of his faith on December 6, 2024, at AgeCare Glenmore, Calgary. He was loved by many and lived his life with a heart full of devotion and compassion to those he cared about.
Frank was a proud and supportive father of Rachelle (Raymond) and Ryan (Kim) and a dearly treasured “Grandpa” of Rayne and Antonino who will always remember his special stories, gentle guidance, and the joy he brought to their lives when he came to visit in Ottawa.
Predeceased by his father, Francis Hugh O’Connor and mother, Marie Florence Lillian O’Connor (Blackall), Frank is also predeceased by a special great nephew, Alex.
Caring sisters, Mary (Leonard Christensen), Anne (Robert Wood), and Bernadette (always “Bern” to Frank) will miss their brother Frank, dearly.
Many nieces, nephews, and their spouses, loved and enjoyed time spent with Frank including Brian (Dolly), Angela (Don), Paul (Michelle), Kevin, David, Catherine (Joe) and Rob (Sue). Many great nieces and nephews also shared in special family celebrations with Frank.
Frank was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier University (’69) in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, where he met his bride of almost 3 decades Wendy (’70), mother to Rachelle (’94) and Ryan. Frank always wore his “X” ring with pride and was a life-long advocate for the Xaverian family. Together they created a beautiful home in Sydney, Cape Breton, filled with countless cherished memories. Frank recently spoke of the special place Cape Breton would always have in his heart.
Frank had a profound love for the outdoors, where he found peace and connection. Whether fishing, watching a sunset, doing yard work, going for a walk in nature, or taking a backyard nap, he cherished the beauty of the world around him. He lived with humility, kindness and a heart dedicated to service, always finding strength in God’s word. Frank was a devoted member of his parish, the Knights of Columbus, board member of the Cancer Society, and past president of the Kiwanis Club and Nova Scotia Mental Health Association, to name a few.
Frank’s passion for sport, especially hockey and football, began at a young age and never wavered. He thoroughly enjoyed having discussions with family members about how their teams were doing in the NHL (Flames, Leafs, and Sens) and MLB (Toronto Blue Jays) and, of course, Sunday afternoon NFL games were an all-time favorite.
Frank’s first home was in Streetsville, Ontario and per his wishes, he will return to Streetsville. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in his honour at St. Joseph’s Church (5440 Durie Rd, Streetsville, ON) on Friday February 28, 2025 at 11:00 am, with a Visitation prior at 10:30 am, followed by Burial alongside his parents in the F.H. O’Connor family plot at St. Joseph’s Cemetery.
Dad, Frank, your faith, and love was felt by all of us. Though we mourn your passing, we take comfort in knowing you are now in the presence of the Lord you served so faithfully. Your memory will be cherished and treasured.
Rest in Peace, our dear Frank.
