Ferne Louise (Spear) Anderson

Sadly, our beloved mother has passed away, with her family by her side. She joins our father who passed in 2011.

Ferne was a loving and caring Wife, Mother, Grandma (kokum), Sister, Aunt and Friend. She will always be remembered for her ability to speak out, especially if it involved fairness. A trait she handed down to her family, along with her love for pets.  

Ferne was born in Calgary to parents Joseph and Doris Spear. She grew up with siblings Keith Spear, Joy Ellwood and Doris (Dode) McBean.

Being a native Calgarian she lived and worked her life here. She was happiest camping with family and friends or playing a game of CRIB.

Ferne leaves to mourn her passing her children: Joseph (Tess), Keith (Kim), Clayton (Annette), Judy (Al), James(Christine) and Amber (Andrew).  Her grandchildren, whom she cherished: Stefanie (Dan), Charles, Amanda, Sean (Haley), Justin, Chad (Victoria), Kyleigh (Liam), Chaely (Hunter) and Great Granddaughter Chloe.  Her Sister and best friend Dode (Bryan) McBean.  

She was predeceased by her husband of 50 years Charles (Chuck), her parents Joseph and Doris, siblings Keith and Joy, her Mother-in-law Elise, Father-in-law Alan (Bud) Anderson.

Mom spoke her love through food and meals, making sure everyone got fed! Often to 30 or more people at a time, Breakfast, Lunch or Supper she provided for all. 

Ferne loved and was loved by a great number of family and friends. She was proud of the friendships she made in her life, many were life long.  Once she took you into her heart that is where you stayed.

A Celebration of Ferne’s Life will be held at Evan J Strong Funeral Services North (3625 12 Street NE) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Service to follow at Queen’s Park Cemetery (3219 4 Street NW).
